However, close inspection of the lighthouse reveals that this picture was taken PRIOR to the remodel in 1927; the summer kitchen/bedroom wing on the Potomac side of the house is visible.

Point Lookout by Boat1168 viewsPoint Lookout looks like an island. The land around the lighthosue had more vegetation (trees) back in 1979. The turbulent waters at the confluence of the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River confirm the need for a lighthouse to warn mariners.
