However, close inspection of the lighthouse reveals that this picture was taken PRIOR to the remodel in 1927; the summer kitchen/bedroom wing on the Potomac side of the house is visible. Also notice the two chimneys on opposite ends of what is the present day first floor living rooms. A building exists in the upper right hand corner of the picture.

863 viewsThe interior walls are in bad shape. Some of the damage has been caused by vandals, however, other areas were opened up as part of a structural evaluation prior to the 2002 rennovation. The brick in the old part of the lighthouse is 14" thick.

Point Lookout by Boat849 viewsPoint Lookout looks like an island. The land around the lighthosue had more vegetation (trees) back in 1979. The turbulent waters at the confluence of the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River confirm the need for a lighthouse to warn mariners.
