Point Lookout Lighthouse, prior to 2002 renovations776 viewsThe lighthouse trimmed in red. The 2002 remodel changed the color of the lighthouse to tan, as it would have appeared in 1927.44444

Approaching the lighthouse from the Potomac River Side779 viewsA view as we approached the lighthouse from the Potomac River. Robert spent the weekend with his friends at Point Lookout State Park. The original plan was to round the point and take pictures of the lighthouse from both sides and then visit Point No Point lighthouse, about 6 miles up the bay. However, the weather did not cooperate and a unpredicted squall moved through, kicking up 3 to 4 foot waves. Everyone braved the elements, and we all vowed to try again next time!

ManVestHat1.jpg
Man in a Vest and Cap, Second Shot3700 viewsThis image appears to be the silhouette of a man wearing a hat and a poncho. The picture was taken at the end of the April 4th open house. The image appears to be see thru. Was this someone in the lighthouse, or is this a visitor from beyond? This is the second of 2 pictures that were taken back to back.

LanternRoomFace2.jpg
Lantern Room Face 2567 viewsJust before dusk on Saturday September 19, 2009, my wife Kathy and I visited the Point Lookout Lighthouse for the Lighthouse Challenge. We were late getting to Point Lookout. In fact, we were the last ones to sign the log for that day. I climbed the stairs to the upper part of the lighthouse and took some pictures while my wife waited on a bench outside the lighthouse. I was the only person above the ground level floor at that point. I then climbed through the entrance to the cupola and was taking more pictures. In both pictures, a man's face is clearly distinguishable. The image appears to have some sort of facial hair and glasses or goggles (or some something on his eyes.) I was not wearing glasses. The image is definitely not my reflection. My family has taken an interest in the pictures and we did some research on the internet. We thought there is a possibility that the image could be that of William Yeatman, a lighthouse keeper who died at the light house after serving 37 years as keeper.33333

View of the Coal and Buoy Sheds from the Lighthouse Roof993 viewsLooking south from the roof of the lighthouse, c. 1925. Note the fog bell tower in the center of the picture(attached to coal shed). The photos are part of a larger photo album documenting a 1925 trip to southern Maryland by Julia Dent Best and Alfred Sellman Best. Julia Best was a 1919 graduate of what was then called St. Mary's Female Seminary. The album was donated to St. Mary’s College of Maryland Archives by Julia Best's great-niece, Virginia Arndt, of Solomons.33333

WmYeatmanJr.jpg
William Yeatman, Jr (1931-1939)831 viewsThis is a picture of William Yeatman, Jr. from the late 1920s or early 1930s. He was the Assistant Keeper at Point Lookout from 1931 until he retired in 1939. Previously, William Yeatman, Jr. had been the keeper at Point No Point, Drum Point and Piney Point prior to moving back to Point Lookout. He took a volutary demotion to Assistant Keeper in 1931 to return to Point Lookout, most likely because he had previously lived in the lighthouse and wanted to raise his kids there (including Harry Yeatman, 1920-2001). The assignment to Point Lookout most likely did not carry a reduction in salary, but allowed William Jr more family time because most other lighthouses did not have a full time assistant keeper. This photo courtesy of Ted Yeatman, William Yeatman Sr's Great Grandson.
